Halftone texture, with your colors intact.

A halftone represents tone with marks and transparent gaps. In Yoou, Original colors keeps the sampled artwork colors while the screen controls how much ink covers each area. Shadows changes coverage in dark areas without recoloring them.

1

Select the artwork, then Halftone

Select text, an image, a vector or a group. Open Halftone from the toolbar above the canvas. A group receives one screen across its complete composition, including text and overlapping artwork. Choose dots, lines, squares, diamonds, crosshatch, stipple or oval marks; the preview appears on the artwork.

2

Keep the palette or choose your inks

Leave Colors on Original colors to preserve sampled source RGB values. Single ink and Duotone intentionally recolor the screen. Presets change the pattern and tonal settings while respecting your selected color mode.

3

Control the shadows

Increase Shadows for denser dark areas, or lower it to open the gaps. Shadow range determines how far the adjustment reaches into midtones. Shadows only removes the lighter part of the screen; compare against the original before applying.

4

Check at the final print size

Detail controls the number of marks across the artwork’s longest edge. More marks make finer texture, but the printable minimum depends on the production process. Check the actual-size export and your printer’s minimum line and dot sizes before selling.

What changes in practice

Lettering and grouped designs

Before
The design contains curved text and illustrations that need the same halftone treatment.
After
Select the text or group, preview the screen and apply it. Yoou keeps the original editable layers hidden in Layers and creates a vector result. Reopen Halftone on that result to adjust the effect using its original sources.

A flat-color illustration

Before
A monochrome preset replaces an orange-and-black palette with one ink.
After
Original colors retains the sampled orange and black. Shadow adjustments change the gaps and coverage, not those colors.

Dark regions look blocked up

Before
Increasing global brightness also changes lighter areas that already look right.
After
Lower Shadows and keep Shadow range narrow to open the dark areas while leaving highlights alone.

A detailed photograph

Before
Expecting every source pixel to survive a small set of printed marks.
After
Each mark samples an area; complex photos use a limited palette for an editable result. Check whether the chosen detail level preserves the features that matter.

Does a halftone PNG replace screen-print separations?

No. A colored halftone is an artwork effect. It does not automatically provide printer-calibrated spot-color separations, a white underbase or compensation for dot gain. Apply the effect, export your design and confirm the production requirements with your printer. Keep the original layer and editable project so you can revise the screen later.
